What are Arudhas: These are the reflection of the original house or bhava and can give us a clue as to what is rising in our life.

What it is used for: The purpose of Arudhas is to understand what is rising in our life which are tangible in nature and which can be measured such as : Enemies, Disease, Promotion, Business partners and so on and so forth

How it is calculated: Arudhas are of two types:

  1. Graha Arudha

  2. Rasi Arudha

Graha Arudhas are that arudhas which are rising when a dasa is operating and it is connected to that arudha in a sign

Rasi Arudha is that Arudha which is permanent in nature and it does not have any connection with Dasa or planets but permanent in nature

Both these are calculated in a different manner:

ARUDHA CALCULATION:

Graha arudha:

  • Identify the Planet: Find the natal house/sign of the planet in question.

  • Locate its Lord: Find the sign owned by that planet. (If the planet owns two signs, the stronger sign is used).

  • Count the Distance: Count the number of signs from the planet's natal position to the position of its lord

  • Mirror the Placement: Count the exact same number of signs forward from the lord's position. The resulting sign is the Graha Arudha Pada.

  • Exception: If the resulting sign falls in the 1st or 7th position from the original planet's house, you must count an additional 10 houses forward to find the final Arudha.

Key arudhas:

Key Arudha Padas and Their Meanings

There are 12 Arudhas in total, each reflecting an outward aspect of your life:

  • Arudha Lagna (AL) / A1: Represents your public image, fame, ego, and how society views you.

  • Dhana Pada (A2): Represents your outward display of wealth, affluence, and financial standing.

  • Dara Pada (A7): Represents partnerships, romance, physical intimacy, and business alliances.

  • Rajya Pada (A10): Represents your career reputation, professional status, and worldly power.

  • Upapada (A12): Represents marriage, the spiritual union, and your family life.

6th house from Arudha Lagna

The AL6 is another tamasic house with tamasic karakas. It is a dangerously destructive house, rajasic planets lose their want to create. The sattvic planets are weak here and the tamasic planets have a similar effect as in the third house, though here they are much more active. Malefics here will give a person a very warring nature. Jaimini says, “if malefics are in the 3rd and 6th houses [from AL], the native joins the armed forces” (1.3.36). Malefics in these placements will give a person a harsh tone in their voice and they will often be perceived as aggressive.

Examples:

In this example chart we find that 6th lord Mercury is with the Lagnesh Sun and 12th lord Moon forming Amavasya Yoga. Native was born one day before Amavasya. Arudha lagna(AL) is placed in the Aries sign where as 6th house is empty but in the 3rd house from AL in Gemini sign. Gemini is all about short travels, internet, papers, communications and younger siblings. 66th is all about enemies hence when a planet like Mercury when placed in the 6th from arudha lagna is not good as Gemini is a house related to fights but Mercury is all about communication and skill development. A Rajasic graha like Mercury is all about creation as it is related to Brahma and when placed in Tamasic houses like 3r and 6th does not give results and makes the native DHARMIC and does not FIGHT

In this chart we find the lagna rising is Leo and Arudha lagna being in the sign of Gemini makes the native ferocious when provoked and here we find that 3rd from arudha lagna has AL lord Mercury in the 3rd house in lagna while Mars a destructive planet and Tamasic in nature and placed in the 6th from Arudha lagna gives the native the power to destroy his or enemies..
